Butterfish
An important notice for any readers who live in or near Stuttgart:
Go to the Bauernmarkthalle, and make your way along the left-hand stalls to the fish stand. Order a portion of smoked butterfish (geräucherter Butterfisch). Take it home and eat it.
Your tastebuds will thank me.

That is the extent of my Dutch. I once spent six weeks in Hoofddorp (sp?) on secondment to a computer company, and found it very frustrating: I wanted to learn at least a little conversational Dutch, but everyone I spoke to answered me in English. They simply refused to be spoken to in Dutch.
