A recommendation

Let me introduce you to a wonderful CD, so new that Amazon can't deliver it until mid-September (although it's on the shelves here in Europe).

Ali Farka Touré (acoustic guitar) and Toumani Diabaté (kora) had apparently never played together before making this record, which grew out of a solo recording session for Touré on which he played one of Diabaté's father's songs, and thought to invite the son to join him.

The music is entrancing, with many delicate layers of sound weaving around and through each other; hard to believe that there are (mostly) just the two of them playing. It's difficult to characterise (at least for a westerner who is not familiar with the traditional roots of the players' styles, Malians would probably be able to speak volumes about each song) except to say that it is very lovely, almost New Age (forgive me, I'll never use that phrase again) in its meditative calm.

Give it a try, your ears will thank me.
