Whiffle, Tuesday edition

I don't know where I got the idea that I could translate a page of the Münsters' Wiki in 90 minutes. Today's took over five hours. Admittedly it was the longest and most complicated yet, far longer than any previously. I may have to upwardly revise my estimate of the work remaining.

I've been going through a strange phase of appetite fluctuations for the last few weeks, from no appetite at all to Tasmanian Devil and back every five or six days. At present, I'm in ravenously hungry mode again: I could start in the kitchen at bottom left and work around to the top right polishing off everything softer than my teeth, and still want dessert.

Weather is improving, some blue-skied and sunny days lately. Walked to the river on Sunday, and downtown for coffee this morning.

And that's about it, my dears. I'm also going through a strange phase of leading a very dull life. I hope yours are more interesting.

Dull is not the worst, you know.

Yes, definitely, revise your estimate! In my humble opinion as an experienced translator, you should always quote for translation work per hour; it's pretty impossible to judge how long a long job is going to take. I usually say: "?? per hour, which tends to work out at an average of ???? words per hour, but it may take me more or less time than this."

One night last week I found myself dreaming in spreadsheets.

Sorry, I didn't exactly alleviate the dullness by discoursing on how to estimate for a translation job, did I? Extremely dull unless you are a translator :-) (but spreadsheets are duller, I agree)

Sorry, I just get to walk around electronic shows and sporting goods shows and porn extravaganzas. No riverside coffee for me.

Dull from the inside, maybe. Only you can say about that. But not from the outside. We're the experts there :-)

You think you're dull? I'm sitting here jealous that I don't dream in spreadsheets. That's just weird.

I think dreaming in spreadsheets would actually be quite exciting.

Jean, the estimate is purely for my own use, I'm being paid by the hour for this job. On other occasions, I've quoted a rate per 100 words with special conditions for Powerpoint and its ilk.
