X marks the spot

Walking home from my evening perambulations, I saw the most amazing thing. Picture this: the sky was the last shade of dark blue, just before being definitely black. Cloudless but for two contrails which crossed at nearly right angles, showing white against the blueness. Exactly at the point where they crossed, the first star of the evening.

Wow.

It was gone in a minute: the contrails drifted away from the star, and were breaking up. Had I not been walking down the right street facing the right way, had I not looked up at just that moment, I would have missed it and you wouldn't know that it had ever been.

It doesn't take much to keep me amused. Especially when there are other, vastly more important things I should be doing.
