Still cold
A progress report on the heating situation chez Udge:
There hasn't been any.
On the other hand, the weather has warmed up slightly, and I'm getting used to being cold. (And I did buy a little fan heater which is almost nearly not inadequate.)
The problem with the heater is simply that the water level in the radiator circuit is too low, the pump won't run until it is topped up. Ah, but how to top it up? there's the rub. I can't figure it out.
I found the manufacturer's website and downloaded the operating manual as a PDF. It says: if the water level is too low, the pump won't run. Top it up according to the plumber's instructions. End of statement. None of the plentiful illustrations identify the place where you attach the hose, let alone what you do after that.
G and U brought around a second electric heater yesterday, a radiator on wheels, and we all trooped into the kitchen to look at the heater. Do you think we could work it out? Three and a half university degrees, and we couldn't figure out how to connect a water hose to a heater. It is to cry.
[Updated on 10. November] We were looking in the wrong place for the wrong thing. The solution was so idiotically simple that we all dismissed it without consideration.
Five down, twenty-five to go.

hmmnnn.... if the pump don't work maybe the vandals stole the handle?
Why don't we have any friends who are plumbers? I mean real plumbers, not amateurs who break stuff.
Electric socks.
Was it made by Ikea? Because that would explain the challenge in putting the water in. I hope you are able to figure it out.
I don't even understand the problem. Bwah. (I heat my place with the aircon. It is up on the wall, and all I have to do is press buttons.)
oh I dont have a clue how to sort this, but just sue everyone who does not sort it to keep you wearm? actually it is the landlords task to have these tings sorted (at least in lower saxony), so just send the bill to the landlord, I hope you have it warm, soon
